About the Program
Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) classes are specially designed for women, and for women only. It is a program designed to teach realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. It covers risk awareness, prevention, reduction, and avoidance that every woman can utilize in her day to day lifestyle.
Classes
Classes are 3 hours each, including a full impact dynamic simulation at the conclusion of the 12 hour program. Participants must complete the entire program to participate in the simulation.
- Class I is a discussion on ways to identify and reduce potentially risky situations. Dating, shopping, home safety, and similar topics are discussed.
- Class II puts some of the first class's discussion into hands-on training. The defensive mindset is strengthened and physical skills begin.
- Class III continues on the physical skills and hands-on learning. By the end of this class, the moves become second nature to the students.
- Class IV is an optional dynamic simulation. The student will be confronted with a real life 'assault' and will be able to demonstrate her skills with the protection of specialized padding.
Program Results & Costs
Students have testified to a new founded confidence they gain from the course and especially the dynamic simulation. RAD offers a "free return and practice" policy which means that once a student completes the classes, they can return anytime to any RAD class for free. At this time, the Cleveland Police Department is covering all the costs and attendance is free to all participants. Our department also offers radKIDS which focuses on teaching and empowering children with real skills so they can recognize, avoid, resist, and if necessary escape violence or harm.
