CITY INSTALLS FIRST BLANK-OUT SIGN

CLEVELAND, TN – The city of Cleveland will be installing its first  “No Turn on Red” blank-out sign at the intersection of Paul Huff Parkway and Peerless Road for eastbound traffic movement turning south onto Peerless Road. The installation of this new LED sign will assist and improve traffic safety at that intersection.

A blank-out sign is different from static signs the community is accustomed to seeing along the city’s roadways and intersections. The blank-out sign is a powered LED sign that is specifically programmed to operate at certain times throughout the day.

Right Turn on Red will be permissible during most of the day and will be blanked out based on data collected from traffic counts and traffic safety studies. When the sign is illuminated and visible the Right Turn on Red will be restricted.

The addition of this LED sign will help improve traffic safety and improve traffic flow throughout this intersection and the Paul Huff Corridor,” said Transportation Engineer David Sheely.

Cleveland Utilities estimates to finish installation and add a protected signal head to turn into the new Paul Huff Corners development the first week of October.
