FAQ
1) What can I swim in at the City Pools?
Appropriate Swimsuits are required! Regular clothing and or gym shorts/sports bras are not allowed
2) Do you offer annual memberships?
We currently do not offer memberships to the pools.
3) What are the rules regarding babies in the pool?
All infants and toddlers must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. Swim diapers are required for children under the age of 2.
4) What is the swim test required at the pools?
Upon entry, a short swim test for children under 13 will be conducted by a lifeguard to determine whether your child can swim safely without a flotation device. If the child does not pass, they will be required to wear either a life jacket or arm floaties and remain in the shallow end of the pool. This test is only required once per pool and will not be required each time they visit. If your child is not satisfied with their test results, they can retest the following week. A ring float or big float count? Passing test wears the swim band or non-passing test? All children swim testing will be given a band and must wear their provided band for their entire stay. Ring floats, pool noodles, and large sitting floats do not qualify as acceptable items of assistance
5) Do you offer concessions at the pools?
We do not offer concessions at any of our pools at this time.
6) Do you offer lockers to store items with at the pools?
No, we do not have lockers for personal use.
7) Can pools be rented for special events?
Yes. Rentals are available at each pool from 6:30-8:30. Tinsley is available Sunday-Saturday and Mosby and SCCC are available Monday – Saturday. The cost is $200 and includes up to 25 swimmers. For any parties over 25, there will be an additional $50 per 25 swimmers. The splash pad and pavilion are not included in the pool reservation or rental fee.
8) More detailed information on the swim test?
Swimmers must swim the width of the pool without assistance. They will be asked to swim part of the way under water and switch to swimming on top of the water without standing up (touching the bottom) or taking a break.
9) More information or update concerning how to become a lifeguard?
To become a lifeguard, candidates must be at least 15 years of age on or before the last scheduled session of the course. Prerequisite skills include:
• Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
-Swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
Swim goggles are allowed.
-Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
-Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
• Timed Event
-Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.
• The face may be in or out the water.
• Swim goggles are not allowed.
Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face at or near the surface.
Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
